Undergraduate Harp Audition Requirements

The following repertoire is recommended but works of similar difficulty may be substituted.

  • Etude - Pozzoli, Studies of Moderate Difficulty:
    • Choose one from Numbers 1, 5, 8, 11 or 14
  • Sonate or Concerto, Classical Era (broad definition):
    • One movement (not limited to) - Dittersdorf, Dussek, Handel, Naderman, Peschetti or Scarlatti
  • Solo of free choice, 3-5 minutes in length:
    • 20th Century music written for the harp (not limited to) - Andres, Britten, Grandjany, Renie or Salzedo
  • Choose one orchestral excerpt:
    • Faure, “Sicilienne” from Pelleas et Melisande - beginning until four before letter B.
    • Franck, Symphony in D minor, 2nd movement, Allegro - beginning to one after letter A.
    • Verdi, La Forza del Destino, “Preludio, O Sinfonia” - letter G to letter H.
  • Choose one cadenza:
    • Britten, The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, Variation I - Maestoso
    • Rimsky-Korsakov, Capriccio Espagnol - IV. Scene e Canto gitano, cadenza only
    • Tchaikovsky, Nutcracker Ballet/Suite - III. Valse des Fleurs, opening arpeggios and cadenza

All applicants will be judged on their individual style, musicianship, and technique. No preference will be given to proponents of any school of technique.
