Complete the symptom checker the morning of your audition and screenshot your result.

Everyone visiting campus as part of the audition day should complete the symptom checker and will be asked to show the result at the check-in table and receive a wristband.

The Frost School of Music is excited to be able to host auditions on campus again this year*. In-person auditions are highly preferred and historically have been required for Early Action, contemporary, and jazz applicants. Requests for virtual auditions will be considered on a case-by-case basis and only in special circumstances.  Recorded auditions are not accepted for Early Action applicants but are an option for Regular Decision classical applicants living outside of Florida.

Tours

Tours of the music quad will be offered at 8:30am, 12noon, and 2pm. Tours will meet in front of Gusman Hall.

Auditions

Each applicant will receive a personalized folder at check-in with their schedule. All required appointments have been scheduled for you along with a warm-up time and space.

  • Audition Protocols

    For everyone’s health, all safety protocols must be met, or the audition will not proceed. 

    Applicants who have traveled internationally within the past 10 days must show proof of negative COVID test at check-in.

    Check-In:

    Station 1 – Present your completed symptom checker (required for everyone, not just applicants). You’ll receive a wristband that you are required to wear while on campus.

    Station 2 – Pick up your personalized folder with your schedule for the day.

    Practice Rooms:

    Each student will be assigned a practice room and a specific time in the Foster building. Monitors will check the student’s schedule prior to entering the building.

    Protocols:
    • Patrons who have traveled internationally within the past 10 days must show proof of negative COVID test at check-in. 
    • Face covers are required in all indoor spaces, regardless of vaccination status.
    • Outdoor masking is strongly encouraged when congregating in large groups.
    • Social Distance: 4 feet apart. 
    • Masks covering the nose and mouth are required when not playing.
    • Wind players use normal un-slitted masks and lower them when playing.
    • ALL others (pianists, strings, percussionists, vocalists/singers, etc.) wear masks while performing.
    • Bell Covers: Used at all times.
    • Absorbent pads are required for brass player spit deposits.
    • Low and intermediate instruments maintain a minimum of 4 feet of distance from one another during practice/performance and add distance where possible.
    • Eating or drinking inside Frost facilities is prohibited.
    Reminders and General Information:
    • Everyone in your party must complete the symptom checker.
    • Bring your own masks, disposable spit pads, etc.
    • Leave your wristband on all day.
    • Frost is adhering to strict room capacity guidelines.
    • Hand sanitizers and wipes have been placed throughout our facilities.
    • Use only wipes mounted in Frost facilities to sanitize piano keys.

Please be reminded that you are undertaking your campus visit at your own risk. If any visitor presents symptoms and subsequently tests positive for COVID-19 within 48 hours of visiting campus, please report this information to the University of Miami Health System at 305-243-ONEU, Option 4.

  • All Classical Vocalist

    An accompanist will be provided for classical vocalists at on-campus auditions, and a $15 accompanist fee will be collected here prior to the audition. 
    • Applicants must provide music for the accompanist at the time of the audition. 
    In addition to all or part of the required audition repertoire, brief sight-reading and tonal retention assessments will take place on the day of the audition. 

  • Jazz Jam Session

    An informal Jam Session for jazz instrumentalists will take place on Audition Day. The Jam is not mandatory, but encouraged.

    As Jazz is a collaborative art form, assessing the ability of applicants to work together in a performance setting is helpful for some studios and performance faculty. Consult with your faculty advisor for participation.

Make sure your application is complete! 

We can not make a decision on your application if your file is incomplete, even if you auditioned. Incomplete applications will be withdrawn by the university after our meeting to finalize decisions. Please check your Applicant Portal regularly to track your application and document status. Do not ignore incomplete items listed on your applicant portal.

Airports

The airport closest to campus is Miami International Airport (MIA) and is about a 25-minute ride from campus. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is further north and is about an hour from campus.

Patrons who have traveled internationally within the past 10 days must show proof of negative COVID test within 48 hours of attending an in-person campus event. 

Parking 

Free parking on campus has been arranged for you. You must register your license plate in advance of parking. If you're picking up a rental at the airport you can register it once you know the plate number.

Important:  All parkers are required to register their vehicle’s license plate with the University to avoid the issuance of a parking citation.
