Euphonium

Prescreening 

Select two or three contrasting etudes or solos (or movements from a concerto or sonata) totaling six-ten minutes which best demonstrate your tone, range, technique, and lyric ability. 

On-Campus Audition

  • Applicants are expected to prepare the following excerpts. 
    • Sousa: Stars and Stripes - Beginning through the first strain, take the first ending and stop
    • Sullivan: Pineapple Poll - Beginning to eight before Rehearsal 2
    • Grainger: Molly on the Shore - Measures 71 to 99
    • Holst: First Suite in Eb - Beginning to two before Rehearsal A
    • Grainger: Colonial Song - Measure 21 to downbeat of measure 45
    • Grainger: Rufford Park Poachers - Pickups to measure 51 to measure 84
    • Schoenberg: Theme and Variations - Measures 149 to 169
    • Barber: Commando March - Rehearsal B to second bar of Rehearsal C
    • Shostakovich: Festive Overture - Rehearsal 8 to 5 measures after Rehearsal 9; one before Rehearsal 21 to the Ab after the Eb trill
    • Mendelssohn: Fingal's Cave - Beginning to the two tied B natural whole notes
  • Select one movement of one of the following:

Trombone

Prescreening 

  • 1 Etude of the applicant's choice
  • Choose one of the following
    • One movement of a standard solo work (concerto or sonata) or
    • A short solo work (five to eight minutes) or
    • Five to eight minutes from a single movement work
    • AND
    • Three standard orchestral excerpts

*Repertoire chosen should demonstrate the applicant's musical and technical ability and interest

On-Campus Audition

  • Two contrasting etudes
  • A complete concerto or sonata from the standard repertoire
  • An additional solo of the applicant's choice
  • Five orchestral excerpts

Trumpet

Prescreening 

  • One Etude of the applicant's choice
  • Choose one of the following: 
    • One movement of a standard solo work (concerto or sonata) or
    • A short solo work (five to eight minutes) or
    • Five to eight minutes from a single movement work or
    • Three standard orchestral excerpts

*Repertoire chosen should demonstrate the applicant's musical and technical ability and interest

On-Campus Audition

  • Two contrasting etudes
  •  A complete concerto or sonata from the standard repertoire
  • An additional solo of the applicant's choice
  • Three to five orchestral excerpts

Tuba

Prescreening 

Select two or three contrasting etudes or solos (or movements from a concerto or sonata) totaling six-ten minutes which best demonstrate your tone, range, technique, and lyric ability.

  • CC or Bb tuba must be used on the Bach
  • Applicants are expected to prepare the following excerpts.
