Unless specified, prescreen requirements are the same as listed below. 

The Frost School of Music's woodwind applicants may include piano accompaniment on their prescreen/recorded audition videos. However, it is not required nor will it be included at the live audition

    All graduate candidates in flute performance are required to upload a prescreen audition to SlideRoom by December 1

    • First movement of Mozart Concerto No, 1 in G major, KV 313 OR No. 2 in D major, KV 314, exposition only
    • A selection from the solo literature by Coleman, Copland, Dutilleux, Ibert, Jolivet, Leon, Loggins-Hull, Martin, Nielsen, Prokofiev, Schubert, Zyman, or equivalent

  • Audition

    • One of the seven sonatas by J.S. Bach, complete
    • Mozart Concerto No, 1 in G major, KV 313 OR No. 2 in D major, KV 314, complete work
    • A selection from the solo literature by Coleman, Copland, Dutilleux, Ibert, Jolivet, Leon, Loggins-Hull, Martin, Nielsen, Prokofiev, Schubert, Zyman, or equivalent 
    • A contemporary solo work demonstrating fluency with extended techniques
    • 3 orchestral excerpts from the list below
      • Beethoven: Leonore Overture No. 3 
      • Debussy: Prélude à l’après midi d’un faune 
      • Hindemith: Symphonic Metamorphosis 
      • Mendelssohn: Scherzo from Midsummer Night’s Dream 
      • Prokofiev: Peter and the Wolf 
      • Prokofiev: Classical Symphony, movement 4 
      • Rossini: William Tell Overture 
      • Stravinsky: Firebird Suite, variation

Oboe

    One or more pieces/movements of your choice that best demonstrate your level of technique and musicality. Total time to be less than 10 minutes. Do not play with accompaniment.

  • Audition

    • Mozart - Concerto in C, K.314 (complete 1st movement, with cadenza)
    • Vaughan Williams - Concerto (complete 1st movement) OR Britten - Six Metamorphoses (Phaeton, Niobe, Bacchus, Arethusa)
    • One slow movement from a work by J.S. Bach
    • Orchestral excerpts:
      • Brahms - Violin Concerto (2nd movement solo)
      • Rossini - Overture, La Scala di Seta fast solo
    • Sight-reading may be asked

    All Masters applicants to Multiple Woodwinds must audition on three instruments.

    For Principal Instrument
    • Flute - Mozart, Concerto in G, K.313
    • Oboe - Mozart, Concerto in C, K.314
    • Clarinet - Mozart, Concerto in A, K.622
    • Bassoon - Mozart, Concerto in B-flat, K.191
    • Saxophone - Glazunov, Concerto for Alto Saxophone
    For all chosen Secondary Instruments
    • A movement from the standard solo repertoire of each instrument that represents the applicant’s level of performance.

    All Doctoral applicants to Multiple Woodwinds must audition on three instruments, one of which must be a double reed.

    For Principal Instrument
    • Flute - Mozart, Concerto in G, K.313
    • Oboe - Mozart, Concerto in C, K.314
    • Clarinet - Mozart, Concerto in A, K.622
    • Bassoon - Mozart, Concerto in B-flat, K.191
