Undergraduate Voice Audition Requirements

Prescreen is required for all Frost School of Music applicants, and unless specified, prescreen requirements are the same as listed below. 

Vocal Performance Majors

  • Prescreening

    • Perform two classical selections (one in English, one in another language) from the art song, opera, operetta, or oratorio repertoire. The selections should demonstrate vocal range and quality, intonation, phrasing ability, and interpretive skills.
    • All selections must be accompanied and memorized.

  • Audition

    In addition to all or part of the material listed above, brief sight-reading and tonal retention assessments will take place on the day of the audition.

    • An accompanist will be provided at on-campus auditions.
      • A $15 accompanist fee will be collected prior to the audition.
    • Applicants must provide music for the accompanist. Music for the pianist must be in a binder and double sided/hole punched.
    • All selections must be memorized.
    • Virtual auditions are approved on a case-by-case basis. If approved, virtual auditions must be done through a computer. You may not use a phone or tablet. 

All Other Music Majors
